Sinking....sinking....
The Daily Progress, a Media General newspaper in Charlottesville, VA has shut down its printing press and laid off 25 people. The printing will move to Richmond. The Danville Register & Bee is expected to make a similar announcement about moving their press work and layoffs soon too.
So - money will be leaving Charlottesville and Danville and going to Lynchburg and Richmond. There is also talk and "unofficial" notice that some additional operations will be going to India. Yup. Nothing like someone in India knowing what folks in Danville want to read about. I think in India they frown on the whole video-taping and humiliating women thing tho.
At least the Daily Progress praised their employees contributions as they announced them. And....the Daily Progress SAID employees were offered positions at other Media General papers where available. Although this is the official version and not what I'm hearing from the Progress folks...so - who knows.
