Keith Hempstead, a Durham lawyer, has sued the News & Observer over the newspaper not offering the same quality it had when he re-subscribed. He is also suing the newspaper for cutting staff and the size of the paper.
Hempstead filed the suit last month in Wake Superior Court. In an interview with a News & Observer reporter he said he renewed his subscription in May just before the paper announced on June 16 the layoffs of 70 staff members and cuts in news pages.
The paper, he claims, is now not worth what he signed up for and therefore the cuts breached the paper's contract with him.
"Plaintiff alleges fraud in that the newspaper announced changes in the coverage after procuring renewals from Plaintiff and other subscribers," Hempstead says in the complaint.
You go Mr. Hempstead!! I'm sure readers all over the country will be watching this one. I sure will. Imagine...advertisers could have a hey-day with this! Smaller papers, less content and the same or higher cost for ads....
What's this blog really about?
You may notice a variety of topics here - from business, to charity promotion, even to local news, but the primary reason this blog was created was to alert readers to the hostile atmosphere and sexual harassment at The Danville Register & Bee. The readers and creator of this blog want a FULL FRONT PAGE apology in the Danville Register & Bee, plus the disciplining of those individuals involved. Until then, we'll continue to post regular updates. To tolerate THIS kind of behavior by a major media network is intolerable. And this isn't just ONE instance. Media General has been sued nationwide for racism and sexism, yet they CONTINUE to keep the offenders employed. Why? And why am I doing this? TRUTH compels me.
