What's this blog really about?

You may notice a variety of topics here - from business, to charity promotion, even to local news, but the primary reason this blog was created was to alert readers to the hostile atmosphere and sexual harassment at The Danville Register & Bee. The readers and creator of this blog want a FULL FRONT PAGE apology in the Danville Register & Bee, plus the disciplining of those individuals involved. Until then, we'll continue to post regular updates. To tolerate THIS kind of behavior by a major media network is intolerable. And this isn't just ONE instance. Media General has been sued nationwide for racism and sexism, yet they CONTINUE to keep the offenders employed. Why? And why am I doing this? TRUTH compels me.

Stock continues to drop, jobs going to India

Media General's stock is still dropping. Thank goodness I was able to sell what I had before this last drop.

Media General stock is now down another -.39 cents to $10.94 ....almost $2 in the past couple of weeks. This drop on the announcement that The Daily Progress is moving their press operations...The Danville Register & Bee is moving their press operation in the next month or so - rumor mill has it in August once the Charlottesville kinks have been worked out a bit (there's no definite date set because they don't want anyone leaving before it's in the interest of The Danville Register & Bee for them to do so...and then they'll lay them off when it's most convenient for the paper - not the employees.

With more jobs leaving town - and even more to go to India!!! It's time Danville had a real newspaper - local news, local people, keeping money in Danville.

What does Danville really need? A weekly hard copy newspaper with daily updates to a website. Advertisers benefit because they pay for one ad a week - and that ad stays on the shelf - or in front of folks for at least a week if not two. Ad internet ads or sponsored placement on videos and your already tight ad dollar will go farther. Think about it. Do you really want a hometown paper whose editorial pages are put together by someone in India, the ads by folks in Lynchburg and printed out of town too?! If you thought the content was bad now - wait until it's scattered over several cities and two countries!

I don't think Media General reporters who live in India would do any worse than many of the ones who work for the Rockingham County newspapers.
