What's this blog really about?

You may notice a variety of topics here - from business, to charity promotion, even to local news, but the primary reason this blog was created was to alert readers to the hostile atmosphere and sexual harassment at The Danville Register & Bee. The readers and creator of this blog want a FULL FRONT PAGE apology in the Danville Register & Bee, plus the disciplining of those individuals involved. Until then, we'll continue to post regular updates. To tolerate THIS kind of behavior by a major media network is intolerable. And this isn't just ONE instance. Media General has been sued nationwide for racism and sexism, yet they CONTINUE to keep the offenders employed. Why? And why am I doing this? TRUTH compels me.

About this blog

For those of you who have never read a blog before, this is how it works. To the left of this is a column entitled "Blog archive." That is a list of all the other "posts" or entries I have written over the past days or weeks. If you click on the title of the post in that column you will be taken to that entry. If you want to email someone - the addresses and websites are on the left hand column.

The first post on this blog is called "Were you filmed?" That incident - in which a then Danville Register & Bee reporter (Mac McLean)filmed the breasts of local business women and showed them in the newsroom so that other men could laugh and joke about them. The Publisher (Steven Kaylor) did nothing. Editor Arnold Hendrix laughed with them. The reporter was hired at another Media General newspaper - a raise in effect. Funny? They think so. Abominable? I think so. This blog will go on - with daily posts, frequent posts and posts of some of the more than 500 emails I have that document working at The Danville Register & Bee.

It's not just me who has suffered. When abuses like these are allowed IN NEWSROOMS for God's sake!! NEWSROOMS!!!!! Then what hope is there of decency in society? If the very people who are supposed to be working towards building a community are tearing it down then what hope do we have? Let Media General and The Danville Register & Bee know you are tired of their pandering to sex, to abuse of women, to racism, to harassment.

They will deny it all - they have learned to lie and lie big. They are in the "spin" business. Expect the Board of Supervisors to support them - since one of their own factors into this problem - and expect people to say "It's not that big a deal."

Morals don't fall, cities don't fall, governments and freedoms are not knocked down in a day. They errode and are chipped away at, bit by bit. This is a bigger bit than most. It needs to be addressed. Will you help? Write:

Contact the editor of the newspaper where Mac McLean now works and ask him if Mac is allowed to videotape women there.

http://www.bristolnews.com/ is the Bristol Herald Courier's website. The editor there is J. Todd Foster. tfoster@bristolnews.com

J. Todd Foster has been the Herald Courier's managing editor since January 2007 and is a career investigative reporter who was part of a Spokane, Wash., team named a finalist for the 1992 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news. Ask Todd if he tolerates this kind of behavior from his reporters. Todd has a pretty impressive resume and appears to be a "journalist's journalist" actually having contributed to society and having made a difference in the world. He claims to have actually left an incredibly big story over ethics - since he said he was the first person to have discovered the identity of "Deep Throat" - Woodward and Bernstein's Watergate source before Vanity Fair broke the story. If he has fired Mac, thank him. If he has not - ask him why not? He's an investigative reporter - let him figure it out.
