I know you're in Danville this week. I still have friends in various MG offices. So this is an open letter to you. Don't believe the lies management at the Danville Register & Bee is telling you. There are some talented and some not so talented folks there. If they're talented they're miserable and will leave soon.
Look at the turnover rate. C'mon now. You don't really believe all those folks you moved up here from Reidsville left for the reasons they said now do you? CHURN. It's not turnover - it's CHURN. Good newsrooms keep good people. The Danville Register and Bee doesn't.
If you listen to the lies and the silver tongued assurances from management there it's going to come back to bite you. These are the men who saw nothing wrong with a reporter who filmed the breasts of local business women and yelled "Tits" across the newsroom and wrote a story about "panty dropping" drinks. This is the publisher who lied to the victim WHOM HE KNEW PERSONALLY! (OW! Get the knife out of her back too!) These are the men who drove off good people, good photographers - probably at your behest....You may be demon spawn as well - but don't be stupid too.
Clean house now. It'll be painful, but in the long run you'll be glad. Print a full-page, front page apology to the women who were harmed. Fire people who were involved. Then move on. Vow never to let this happen again. The longer you fight it, deny it, defend your position the worse it will get. It will grow. This blog will grow. All the emails I've got will eventually be posted. Like a cancer your really, really bad reputation will eat at you and keep really, really good people from coming to work for you. Your competition will bury you. Ad sales will drop off. So will revenues.
Clean house now. DO THE RIGHT THING. Apologize. FIX what you can. NOW.
What's this blog really about?
You may notice a variety of topics here - from business, to charity promotion, even to local news, but the primary reason this blog was created was to alert readers to the hostile atmosphere and sexual harassment at The Danville Register & Bee. The readers and creator of this blog want a FULL FRONT PAGE apology in the Danville Register & Bee, plus the disciplining of those individuals involved. Until then, we'll continue to post regular updates. To tolerate THIS kind of behavior by a major media network is intolerable. And this isn't just ONE instance. Media General has been sued nationwide for racism and sexism, yet they CONTINUE to keep the offenders employed. Why? And why am I doing this? TRUTH compels me.
