What's this blog really about?

You may notice a variety of topics here - from business, to charity promotion, even to local news, but the primary reason this blog was created was to alert readers to the hostile atmosphere and sexual harassment at The Danville Register & Bee. The readers and creator of this blog want a FULL FRONT PAGE apology in the Danville Register & Bee, plus the disciplining of those individuals involved. Until then, we'll continue to post regular updates. To tolerate THIS kind of behavior by a major media network is intolerable. And this isn't just ONE instance. Media General has been sued nationwide for racism and sexism, yet they CONTINUE to keep the offenders employed. Why? And why am I doing this? TRUTH compels me.

Guilt and obsession

From the www.bullyonline.org website:

When the cause of PTSD is bullying, the guilt expresses itself in forms distinct from "survivor guilt"; it comes out as:

* an initial reluctance to take action against the bully and report him/her knowing that he/she could lose his/her job
* later, this reluctance gives way to a strong urge to take action against the bully so that others, especially successors, don't have to suffer a similar fate
* reluctance to feel happiness and joy because one's sense of other people's suffering throughout the world is heightened
* an unusually strong desire to educate the employer and help the employer introduce an anti-bullying ethos, usually proportional to the employer's lack of interest in anti-bullying measures
* a desire to help others, often overwhelming and bordering on obsession, and to be available for others at any time regardless of the cost to oneself

I felt better about this - knowing that while the first time I was harassed and put off reporting it was fear of losing my job - something I expressed to Steve Kaylor...but once I saw it wasn't going to stop...I became obsessed with making it stop. Bullying, sexual harassment and abuse at <span style="font-weight:bold;">Media General and other newspapers too - have GOT to stop. I may be the only one complaining - but I'm not going to stop. You -the reader, can make a difference too. Write the editor of your local paper when you see something that offends you, or if you have been treated rudely or poorly by a reporter. Write or call advertisers who advertise in your local paper and let them know how you feel about what their advertising dollars are supporting.

The Danville Register & Bee's corporate Human Resource Department did not feel any need to institute an anti-bullying program. THEY don't have that problem they said. I think THEY do. And this blog is staying up until THEY figure that out.
